What is the Commons Sound System?

TCSS_Event_Host_Dashboard.webm

The Commons Sound System lets event hosts control the music in the room(s) their event is booked in β€” search and play songs, build a queue, set a backing playlist, run a focus timer, and more β€” all from your phone, tablet, or laptop. No app to install; it runs in your web browser.

Each room has its own speakers. When you start an event, the system groups your room's speakers together so they all play your music, independently of the rest of the building. When your event ends, those rooms automatically rejoin the building's regular music.

🎧 The sound system is for event hosts running booked events. If you're a member who'd like a song or playlist added to the building's daytime rotation, please request it in Slack β€” staff will add it if it fits our music guidelines.

1. Logging in

  1. While connected to β€œThe Commons WiFi by Meter” network, open http://10.103.2.133:3000 in your browser.
  2. You'll land on the Event Host Portal (the page with the pink 🎢 badge).
  3. Enter the event host password β€” host-controls β€” and press Enter.

If you land on a blue Admin / Staff page instead, click "Running an event? Go to the host portal β†’" at the bottom.

After logging in you'll see "Where's your event?" There are three ways to get going.

Option A β€” Launch from the calendar (fastest)

If your event is on The Commons' Luma calendar and happening now (or starting soon), it appears under πŸ“… On the calendar now.

Option B β€” Resume an event already running

If an event is already live in your room (for example, you got logged out), it shows under Events happening now β€” tap Resume to take back control.

Option C β€” Set it up yourself

If your event isn't on the calendar:
